POD Niche Validator Chrome extension · Nichewright Lab · Last updated October 12, 2026
The short version
The extension works only on etsy.com, and only when you press a button. It does its work inside your browser and keeps its results there. It sends nothing to Nichewright Lab or to anyone else. It has no accounts, no analytics, no ads and no tracking.
What the extension reads and does
Only when you press Score, Scan, Inspect or Scan this shop, the extension works in your current tab:
- Scan (Etsy search results): it may change the tab's address to add or remove Etsy's Bestseller filter (the sample you choose), scrolls the page, and reads each listing card: title, link, price, badges, and any "in carts" or "bought in the past 24 hours" note.
- Inspect (an Etsy listing page): it may expand the description, then reads the title, price, options, reviews, badges, related searches and Etsy's own description of each listing photo. It loads the listing photos from Etsy's image server to read their colors and, if your Chrome supports it, to describe them with Chrome's built-in on-device AI (Gemini Nano). That AI runs on your computer: the photos and descriptions are not sent to Nichewright Lab, Google or anyone else.
- Scan this shop (an Etsy shop page): it reads the shop's public header (name, location, rating, total sales, admirers, sections), then, from your Etsy tab, loads more of that shop's public pages on etsy.com: its listing pages, its review pages (the date, star rating and item bought for each review; never reviewer names or review text) and the pages of up to 18 of its top listings, pausing between pages. Only the counts and titles it needs are kept.
- Score (Marketplace Insights in your Etsy Shop Manager): it opens Marketplace Insights for your keyword, switches the date-range menu (30 days, 90 days, 12 months) and pages through similar terms to read the numbers Etsy shows you.
It never reads your orders, messages, customer details, payment information or passwords. It never reads other tabs or any website other than etsy.com and Etsy's image server (etsystatic.com). Its Chrome permissions are limited to those two sites, the side panel, and running its reader on those pages.
Where the data goes
| Data | Where it is kept | How long | Shared? |
|---|---|---|---|
| Your keyword, product facts, the scan on screen, up to 20 saved scans (each with the listings it observed: title, link, badge, price, signals, relevance; never the full page text), your Insights scores (up to 25 terms), your latest shop scan (the shop's header numbers, listing titles, links and prices, and for each review read: its date, stars and the item bought) | Your browser's local storage for the extension, on your computer only | No automatic expiry. Kept until you delete it or remove the extension | No |
| Files you export (CSV or report) | Saved to your computer by your browser | Until you delete them | Only if you share them |
| Listing images shown in the panel | Loaded directly from Etsy's image server, like any Etsy page | Browser cache | Requests go to Etsy only |
Deleting: in the side panel, step 6 (Saved research), you can delete one saved scan, all saved scans, or all extension data at once. Removing the extension from Chrome also deletes everything it stored.
What we do not do
- We do not sell or transfer your data to anyone.
- We do not use your data for advertising, credit decisions or anything unrelated to the extension's single purpose: helping you research and validate Etsy niches and write your own listings.
- We do not load or run code from remote servers.
The download page
If you signed up on our website to get the extension, the email address and optional first name you entered, your opt-in choice, the sign-up time, which form you used, your browser type (user agent) and the page address are stored in a private Google Sheet owned by Nichewright Lab. They are used to send you the download link and, if you opted in, occasional updates. That sign-up is separate from the extension itself. To have your details removed, email us at the address below.
Etsy
The extension shows information that Etsy already displays to you on pages you have open. Use of Etsy remains subject to Etsy's own terms and privacy policy. POD Niche Validator is not affiliated with or endorsed by Etsy, Inc.
